a historic investment in dc’s future
The proposed agreement with the Washington Commanders to build a new stadium and redevelop the 174-acre RFK campus will lead to a historic investment in DC’s future. The project will lead to billions in economic development, bringing jobs, opportunity, new housing, and new revenue to support the District’s safety-net.
The Commanders are responsible for approximately 75% of all costs, including the full cost of stadium. On a percentage basis, the team’s contribution is one of the largest team contributions of any stadium deal, in any sport, in recent memory. Conversely, the District’s share of the costs is less than 25%. In fact, the District is only responsible for the the public infrastructure that would be necessary to develop the campus regardless of whether it included a stadium. To be sure, no services will be cut or priorities shortchanged as a result of this investment.
The agreement negotiated between the team and Mayor Bowser is fair, respectful of District residents, and will benefit the city for a generation to come.
